Don Graham
24/08/09, 13:09
At the Lantern House, Ulverston.
Speaker: Zoe Dawes of Chartwell Coaching
Chair: Don Graham: Cumbria Chamber of Commerce
Zoe’s talk & workshop was entitled ‘Recapturing your inspiration’
We must recognise that inspiration comes and goes.
Creative people have a problem with success.
Zoe asked the attendees to come up with their individual definitions of what is inspiration and to share it with the gathering. The attendees had a wide and very diverse set of definitions.
Zoe referred to 2 sources of ideas around inspiration and motivation.
‘The 8th habit’ by Stephen Covey
And
From ‘The Yoga Sutra of Patangali’
‘When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extra ordinary project, all of your thoughts break their bounds, your mind transcends limitations, your conciousness expands in every direction you find yourself in a whole new world’
Zoe then asked the attendees to share their definitions of success. These included
Fulfilment of life goals whilst doing something you love
Being valued
People come back because they like what I provide
Doing the work and the demand flowing freely by word of mouth.
Organic growth due to referrals because customers like what is provided.
Meeting ones own needs and staring to go out to other people
Seeing people in difficulty develop and grow.
Zoe observed that for most people money is not the priority. But generally in business success is measured by turnover and profit. Is that why so many people are dissatisfied?
Finally, Zoe the asked the attendees to think about and share their business values and what they could do when they got back to the work-place to re-affirm them.
Don thanked Zoe for her very thought provoking and participative presentation.
